About This Tour

One of Norway's Best Hikes That Almost Nobody Visits.

Flørli is famous because someone looked at a mountainside and decided that building 4,444 wooden steps straight up it sounded like a reasonable idea.

Our day begins early as we travel into the heart of Lysefjord by ferry. While most visitors admire the fjord from above, we'll arrive the traditional way — by water. The boat ride itself is worth setting the alarm clock for.

At the tiny fjord village of Flørli, the adventure begins. The world's longest wooden staircase climbs beside an old hydropower pipeline from sea level to the mountains above. Along the way you'll experience fjord views, industrial history, plenty of photo opportunities, and several moments where you'll wonder whose idea this was.

As always, this isn't just about reaching the top. It's about spending the day with local guides who know the stories, the history, the weather, and the places that rarely make it into guidebooks. Many of our guides come from emergency services, firefighting, rescue work, maritime safety, or law enforcement backgrounds. Fortunately, today the biggest emergency is usually somebody realizing they forgot to count the stairs.
