An Enchanting Evening Hike to Pulpit Rock
Our journey with Troll Adventure, a premier outdoor adventure company in Stavanger, Norway, began with an unexpected twist. We, a group from a professional adventure company in Seoul, found ourselves arriving a day late in Stavanger due to a missed flight. Originally, our plan was to head straight to the majestic Kjerag on Monday, but fate had other plans.
Embracing the spirit of adventure, the adaptable team at Troll Adventure swiftly rearranged our itinerary. As we landed, the excitement was palpable among our group members. Picking up the last of our party at the airport, we headed directly to the renowned Pulpit Rock (Preikestolen) for an evening hike.
Pulpit Rock, a towering cliff 604 meters above Lysefjorden, is one of Norway’s most famous tourist attractions. The hike, approximately 4 kilometers each way, is known for its breathtaking views and serene natural beauty. As we embarked on this hike under the soft glow of the evening sun, the landscape around us was nothing short of magical.
The trail to Pulpit Rock is well-marked and relatively accessible, making it ideal for hikers of varying skill levels. The crisp evening air was refreshing, and the tranquil surroundings of the Norwegian wilderness were rejuvenating. After about two hours of hiking, we reached the iconic flat-topped cliff. The view from the top was spectacular, offering a panoramic vista of the Lysefjorden and surrounding mountains – a perfect start to our Norwegian adventure.
Day 2: Conquering Kjerag
After a restful night, we were ready for the highlight of our trip – the hike to Kjerag. Known for Kjeragbolten, the famous boulder wedged between two cliffs, this hike promised to be more challenging.
Early in the morning, we set out from Stavanger, driven by our shared passion for the great outdoors. The journey to the base of the Kjerag hike was scenic, showcasing the stunning landscapes of southwest Norway.
Kjerag, rising 1,110 meters above sea level, offers a more demanding trek compared to Pulpit Rock. The hike spans about 12 kilometers round trip and includes steep climbs and three intense ascents. However, the effort is well worth it. The path took us through a variety of terrains, from rocky paths to wooden boardwalks, each turn revealing awe-inspiring views.
The climax of our hike was reaching Kjeragbolten. The sight of the boulder, suspended above the abyss, was exhilarating. For those brave enough, standing on the boulder provided an unforgettable adrenaline rush and a unique photo opportunity.
As we descended, our hearts were full, not just from the physical exertion but from the beauty and majesty of the Norwegian landscape that Troll Adventure had introduced us to. This trip was not just a journey through Norway’s natural wonders; it was a testament to the spirit of adventure, adaptability, and the sheer joy of exploring the great outdoors.
