As avid hikers and adventure-seekers, my husband and I always look for unique experiences to mark our special occasions. For our third anniversary, we set our sights on the iconic Florli 4444 in Norway, a challenging hike known for its breathtaking scenery and the legendary 4444 wooden steps leading to magnificent views. Our quest led us to Troll Adventure, a company that promised a personalized and thrilling hiking adventure, and they delivered beyond our expectations.
The Adventure Begins
Our journey began with a convenient pickup from our hotel in Stavanger. Jon, our friendly driver, greeted us warmly, setting the tone for what was to become an unforgettable day. We embarked on a scenic drive to Dørvika in Lysefjorden, where the picturesque landscapes of Norway began to unfold before our eyes.
The next leg of our trip was a boat ride to Hengjandefossen and then Flørlie. Sailing through Lysefjorden, we passed by iconic landmarks like Fantahala and the majestic Hengjanefossen waterfall, each view more stunning than the last. The anticipation built as we neared Florli, the starting point of our hike.

The 4444 Steps to Glory
Upon arriving at Florli, we were greeted by Gert, our enthusiastic guide from Troll Adventure. With our backpacks secured, we commenced our ascent up the infamous 4444 steps. The weather was on our side, providing the perfect backdrop for our climb. Gert and Jon were fantastic, giving us space to enjoy the hike at our own pace while ensuring we were motivated and entertained throughout.
Gert’s expertise in drone photography added a special touch to our adventure, capturing stunning photos and videos that we will cherish forever. The 90-minute climb to the top was challenging but rewarding, with each step unveiling a new perspective of Norway’s natural splendor.

The Descent and Journey Home
After conquering the steps and enjoying a well-deserved snack at the summit, we embarked on the cliff trail for our descent. This path offered a different but equally mesmerizing view of the surrounding landscapes. Returning to the base, Gert ensured we were comfortable and treated us to delightful snacks – Fanta and cinnamon buns, a perfect end to an exhilarating hike.
Our adventure concluded with a boat ride back to Dørvika and a drive to Stavanger Airport, where we caught our flight to Tromso, still buzzing from the day’s experiences.
A Heartfelt Thanks to Gert and Jon
The entire experience, from the seamless communication and coordination to the genuine care and enthusiasm of Gert and Jon, made our anniversary unforgettable. Their professionalism, coupled with a friendly and patient demeanor, truly set them apart. The day with Troll Adventure was nothing short of top-notch, and it has undoubtedly etched a return trip in our plans for 2024.
A huge thank you to Gert, Jon, and the Troll Adventure team for making our anniversary a remarkable adventure. Your passion and dedication to providing an exceptional experience shone through every aspect of our trip. Here’s to more adventures and unforgettable memories!
“If I could give Gert (and his brother Jon) 100 stars, I would! I searched high and low for a company willing to take my husband and I to hike the Florli 4444 in October for our third anniversary. The season is normally May-Sept, so things weren’t looking promising. Then I stumbled upon Gert with Troll Adventures. He responded quickly and was 100% in to make our trip happen. Gert coordinated the entire experience for us from start to finish. After getting picked up at our hotel in Stavanger by Jon, we drove an hour to where Gert picked us up for a short boat ride to Florli. Along the way, we motored by popular areas such as Fantahala (the caves), Pulpit Rock, and Hengjanefossen (a huge waterfall). Once at Florli, we grabbed our packs and started up the steps! The weather was ABSOLUTELY PERFECT and Gert/Jon gave us our space, didn’t rush us, and were laughing/keeping us motivated the entire time. Gert was always running ahead to fly his drone to take photos/videos of us, and they came out SPECTACULAR! Once at the top (it took us about 90 minutes), we had a quick snack and then took a cliff trail all the way back. Finally back at the base, Gert made sure we were warm and had snacks (Fanta and Cinnamon buns for the win!), and we headed to the airport to catch our 630pm flight to Tromso. Everything from communication, the experience, the photos, and Gert & Jon’s friendly/patient demeanor made our anniversary. The day was top notch. We don’t normally return to places, but our day spent with Gert and Jon solified a return trip in 2024. Thank you SO MUCH guys!”
